Giving old favorites and new misfits another life.

When your favorite white denim jacket loses its original crispness after years of wear, you don’t throw it out you upgrade it.

Because I have a strong sensitivity to chemicals, I wanted to avoid harsh commercial fabric dyes and find a safe, natural alternative.

Since I pretty much only drink matcha, I decided to repurpose some old coffee I had laying around instead of letting it go to waste. A gentle coffee dye bath gave this jacket a second life in one of my favorite luxury egret ivory tones. A coffee bath will only work effectively on 100% natural fibers and must be followed by a vinegar soak to lock in the color.

To complete the look, I intercepted a new stark white promo hat with a bright blue logo that was headed for the trash. I removed the blue stitching, distressed the top panels and brim, reinforced the brim distressing with hand stitching and gave it a matching tonal coffee bath. Loving how this custom, sustainable, and completely repurposed set turned out.

The front panels feature intentional fraying and holes where a logo was removed, while the edge of the brim shows heavy distressing reinforced with neat rows of hand stitching.
